- W2003062775 abstract "Cloacal exstrophy is a complex congenital anomaly characterized by diastasis of the pubis, exstrophy of bowel and bladder, imperforate anus, omphalocele, and, in many cases, a neural tube defect. Case 1: A 19-year-old Vietnamese woman, gravida 1, para 0, was received regular prenatal examination from 6 + 4 weeks after her last menstrual period. A follow-up ultrasound examination at 18 weeks of gestation revealed infraumbilical omphalocele, rule out menigomyelocele and bladder could not be identified. Cloacal exstrophy was impression in our patient. As a consequence, the patient was admitted to our hospital for termination of pregnancy. A dead umbigious sex baby abortus weighing 250 gm was delivered and present with all of the aspects described for exstrophy of the cloaca. Karyotyping of the baby's tissue revealed 46, XY. Case 2: A 23-year-old Taiwanese woman, gravida 3, para 2, was referred at 26 + 3 weeks for ultrasound examination and was noted to have abdominal mass, possibly gastroschisis. Amniocentesis do at previous hospital, revealed normal 46, XX karyotype. Follow-up sonography revealed intestine exposure to the amniotic fluid and bladder could not be identified. In the 36 + 4 of gestational weeks she went into labor and was delivery by cesarean section because of previous cesarean section, weighing 2149 gm, a grossly abnormal female infant with bifid uterus and exstrophy of the cloaca. Cloacal exstrophy is rare, and a frequently quoted incidence is 1 in 200 000 to 1 in 250 000 births. It is arise from embryological maldevelopment of the cloacal membrane that prevents migration of mesenchymal tissue and impedses normal lower abdominal development. The sonographic findings that suggest cloacal exstrophy should be suspected when there is an abdominal wall defect with absence of a normal bladder." @default.
