- W2003087434 abstract "This study was carried out to describe in quantitative terms histologic parameters from selected regions of the cancellous bone in the normal femoral head. Femoral heads were obtained at autopsy, and blocks from the principal compressive (PC) and principal tensile (PT) regions of a coronal slide were sampled systematically to prepare 10 μm sections for automated histoquantitation using a Quantimet image analyzer. For mineralized bone there was a significant negative regression on age in both principal stress regions, though the quantitative description was not definitive. The principal compressive values of mineralized bone were higher, with no sex difference, compared to the principal tensile values, which showed a sex difference. Changes in trabecular surface, width, and marrow spacing were shown to be more dependent on bone mass than on age. The surface density values were higher, without sex difference for the PC region compared to the PT region, which had a sex difference. There was no regression on age for the PC region but a significant negative regression for the PT region. For mean trabecular thickness, again the values were higher for the PC region, with negative regressions on age for both regions but no sex difference in either region. For spacing, the values were lower for the PC region, with a significant increase with age for both regions but no sex difference in either region. The surface density had positive linear regressions on mineralized bone for both PC and PT regions, though a parabolic regression, based on a model described, was favored. Trabecular width and spacing for PC and PT regions showed significant positive and negative regressions on mineralized bone, respectively. The heterogeneous nature of the structural data, between regions, suggests the existence of different mechanical effectors that determine the structural architecture of the femoral head. While trabeculae are lost sooner in the principal tensile region than in the principal compressive region, trabecular thickness changes occur at the same rate in both principal stress regions. Moreover, principal tensile trabeculae are lost earlier because the mass of bone in the tensile region is less than that which is found in the compressive region. Cette étude a été entreprise pour décrire en termes quantitatifs les paramètres histologiques dans des zones bien repérées de l'os trabéculaire de la tête fémorale. Les têtes fémorales ont été obtenues à l'occasion d'autopsies et des blocs d'os ont été prelevés dens la zone principals decompression (ZPC) et dens la zone principals de tension (ZPT) sun une coupe circulaire ceux-cl étant traités en coupe de 10 μm d'épaisseur pour une lecture histomorphométrique automatisée utilisant un analyseur d'images type Quantimet. Pour l'os calcifié, il y a une regression significative avec l'âge dens les deux zones sollicitées, blen qua l'etude quantitative soft préliminaire. La teneur en os minéralisé dens la zone principals de compression est plus élevée que celle de la zone de tension. Il n'y a pas de différence (lee au sexe dens la ZPC mals cette différence existe dens la ZPT. Les modifications e de la surface trabéculaire de l'épsisseur des travées et de l'espece médullaire intertrabéculaire dependent plus de la masse osseuse qua de l'âge La surface de section de l'os spongfeux est plus élevée dens la ZPC qua dens la ZPT avec une différence selon le sexe pour la première, non retrouvée pour la seconde. Il n'y a pas de regression aver l'âge pour ce paramétre dens la ZPC mals une régression négative aver l'âge est observes dans la ZPT. Pour I'épaisseur moyenne des travées à nouveau les valeurs … etaient plus elevees dens la ZPC et etalent negativement correlees avec rage dens les deux regions mais sans différence entre les sexes. En ce qui concerns l'espacement, les valeurs etelent plus basses dens la ZPC, augmentant sIgnificativement avec l'age mais sans differences entre les sexes. La densite de surface etait correlee avec l'os minéralisé dens les deux regions mais une regression parabolique etait plus adequate.
