- W2003152843 abstract "The intravenous administration of 20 rau or 50 mil of ACTH in hypophysectomized rats or “stress” in the intact rat produces an increase in the amount and concentration of ascorbic acid in blood collected from the adrenal vein by direct cannulation. Under the influence of ACTH, the amount of ascorbic acid found in adrenal venous blood could account for that which disappeared from the adrenal, but under “stress” more ascorbic acid disappeared from the adrenal than could be found in the adrenal venous blood. The procedure associated with the cannulation of the adrenal vein and the collection of adrenal venous blood caused a large rise in the circulating levels of ascorbic acid even though the pituitary and adrenals had been effectively removed. PRELIMINARY data reported earlier by Munson and Briggs (1) showed that adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) increased the concentration of ascorbic acid in adrenal venous blood." @default.
