- W2003264144 abstract "The hot ductilities of aluminium-killed and niobium-bearing steels were studied in order to elucidate the mechanism of surface cracking in continuous casting slabs with particular emphasis on A1N and NbC precipitations. The ductility trough in slow strain rate tensile tests is observed in the temperature range from the low temperature austenite region to the γ-α duplex phase region with an intergranular microvoid coalescence mode of fracture along the γ grain boundaries. Such a ductility loss is induced by the densely dispersed precipitates of AlN and/or NbC on the γ grain boundaries and enhanced by the strain concentration in the softer layers along the γ grain boundaries such as the grain boundary allotriomorphs of ferrite or the precipitation-free zones. The poor ductility can be remarkably improved by coarsening the grain boundary AlN and/or NbC particles. The matrix-strengthening mechanism is also discussed in relation to the precipitation of NbC during deformation and the γ → α transformation behaviour." @default.
