- W2003264918 abstract "Abstract 1. The effects of dopamine and some other pharamocological agents on the prothoracic common inhibitory motoneurone (D 3 ) of the cockroach ( Periplaneta americana ) have been studied by intracellular recording. 2. Dopamine causes a depolarization of the neurone associated with a small fall in input resistance. 3. Noradrenaline and octopamine have a similar action, although octopamine is normally considerably less potent than dopamine or noradrenaline. 4. Dopamine responses are reversibly suppressed by either the alpha-adrenergic antagonist phentolamine or by the beta-antagonist propranolol; however, in this preparation, these antagonists also suppress ACh responses. 5. Neither dopamine responses nor resting membrane properties of the motoneurone are significantly altered by the phosphodiesterase inhibitor isobutylmethylxanthine, by dibutyryl cyclic AMP or by the adenylate cyclase stimulant forskolin. 6. These observations indicate that the action of dopamine upon the prothoracic common inhibitory motoneurone is not mediated via an elevation in intracellular cyclic AMP concentration." @default.
