- W2003618946 abstract "Abstract Fallout decay simulation experiments were conducted by exposing potted plants of three different clones of Tradescantia heterozygous for flower color to gamma rays, reducing both the dose and dose rate daily (simulated to decrease to a half after 8, 2 or 1 days). Two stable (KU 27 and KU 9) and one mutable (KU 20) clones were used. Daily changes of the induced somatic pink mutation frequency in the stamen hairs observed in such fallout decay simulation experiments were compared with those obtained after single-dose treatments or treatments with simply fractionated doses at fixed dose rates. As compared with single-dose treatments, the treatments with simply fractionated doses resulted in lower peak values and longer peak periods of mutation frequency as expected. In the fallout decay simulation experiments, higher peak values and earlier and shorter peak periods of mutation frequency were observed than after treating with simply fractionated doses also as expected. Although the spontaneous mutation frequencies determined in clone KU 20 were very much higher than those in clones KU 27 and KU 9, gamma-ray-induced mutation frequencies per unit dose in these three clones were comparable, suggesting different mechanisms of initiation and/or repair of spontaneous and gamma-ray-induced mutations." @default.
