- W2003802393 abstract "Abstract 1. 1.|No difference in ADP/O or respiratory control ratio (RCR) was observed between warm acclimated and cold acclimated rat liver mitochondria. 2. 2.|ADP/O of mitochondria decreased linearly with increasing concentrations of certain long chain fatty acids while the RCR decreased exponentially in the warm and cold acclimated rat liver and pigeon liver mitochondria. 3. 3.|Both the ADP/O and RCR of trout liver mitochondria and the warm acclimated rat liver mitochondria incubated at 9°C showed an essentially linear decrease with increased fatty acid concentration. 4. 4.|The ADP/O and RCR of warm acclimated rat liver mitochondria incubated at 9°C compared to that incubated at 30°C were lower. The lower RCR of the cold incubated group was shown to be due to a reduced State 3 respiration rate. 5. 5.|The significance of these results in terms of the ATP requirements of the liver and its thermogenic capacity is discussed. A mechanism for the regulation of fatty acid oxidation in mitochondria of homeotherms is proposed stressing the role of free fatty acids and their possible role in the evolution of endothermy." @default.
