- W2003973264 abstract "Abstract The psychometric properties of the German adaptation of the Balanced Inventory of Desirable Responding were investigated. This 2-factor inventory taps the egoistic bias and the moralistic bias as the 2 distinguishable components of social desirability. In 2 validation studies, both subscales showed satisfactory internal consistency and temporal stability. To examine convergent and discriminant validity, the scales were correlated with those of a measure of unrealistic optimism, various measures of self-enhancement, 1-dimensional scales of social desirability, and the tendency to overclaim in a test of general knowledge. Acknowledgment We would like to thank Martin Lotz for his help in collecting data for Study 1. Notes Parameter c is better suited for measuring individual differences in response bias than parameter β, which is also frequently used in signal detection analysis. This is because β becomes approximately 1 when a participant's discriminatory ability decreases; thus β—unlike c—does not allow for an assessment of response bias that is independent of the discrimination index d’ (Macmillan & Creelman, Citation1991). In the following analyses we reverse keyed c to make high values of c represent a low threshold. Positive values of c thus indicated a tendency to overclaim." @default.
