- W2004104817 abstract "Abstract Electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements have been carried out on the metamagnetic-like layered compound CrCl 3 at the X-band frequency (∼9.4 GHz) and over the temperature range between room temperature and 4.2 K. The results reveal that, in the presence of an applied field of the order of 3 kOe (the static field required for resonance), CrCl 3 behaves magnetically like a two-dimensional system. The ESR behaviour is found to be characterized by: (i) a (3 cos 2 Θ−1) 2 -like angular anisotropy of the line width Δ H at room temperature (Θ is the angle between the applied field and the c -axis); (ii) an enhancement of this anisotropy, associated with a departure from a Lorentzian line shape, when T is lowered toward the critical temperature T cr ; (iii) a critical-like increase of Δ H as T → T cr , followed by a maximum Δ H m at a temperature T m > T cr , and a sensitivity of both Δ H m and T m to the applied field strength; and (iv) a (3 cos 2 Θ−1)-like angular dependence of the resonance field H r , and an anisotropic shift of the latter with decreasing temperature. These features are characteristic of diffusional relaxation in a two-dimensional ferromagnet, where the long wavelength spin fluctuations are enhanced with decreasing temperature." @default.
