- W200416766 abstract "In humans, glucagon has a potent stimulating action upon hepatic glucose produc¬tion (Chaps. 14, 15 and 16), ketogenesis (Chap. 17), and lipolysis. These metabolic effects have been shown to be sensitive to the simultaneous secretion of insulin and/ or the hepatic exposure to insulin which counteracts the lipolysis, ketogenesis, and gluconeogenesis. Insulin also exerts a well-characterized effect upon the liver to enhance the production of triglyceride-bearing lipoprotein (Reaven et al. 1967; Strega et al. 1977). In this setting, a counteractive action of glucagon has been observed, suggesting a hypotriglyceridemic response to this hormone, which could participate in the pathophysiology of endogenous hyperlipoproteinemic states (see Chap. 20)." @default.
