- W2004335918 abstract "Total or partial lesions of the fastigial nucleus have been made in cats and the ensuing preterminal and terminal degeneration in the perihypoglossal nuclei (nucleus intercalatus, nucleus of Roller, and nucleus praepositus hypoglossi) studied in silver-impregnated sections by methods of Nauta and Glees. The fibers terminating within the nucleus intercalatus, nucleus of Roller, and ventral part of nucleus praepositus hypoglossi are derived from the contralateral fastigial nucleus. Most of these originate in its caudal part. The fibers terminating in the dorsal region of the nucleus praepositus hypoglossi come from the ipsilateral fastigial nucleus and are mostly derived from the rostral part of this. While the fibers to the contralateral perihypoglossal nuclei pass in the hook bundle, those to the ipsilateral nuclei constitute part of the direct fastigiobulbar connections. The anatomical projections constitute a link in a pathway by which the cerebellar cortex is enabled to influence reciprocally the same or more wide-spread regions of the cortex. The functional implications of the findings are discussed." @default.
