- W2004385886 abstract "Viruses were isolated from seawater in the intertidal zone of an estuary before and after the introduction of a major sewage disposal scheme. The number of viruses isolated fell markedly after the introduction of the scheme while the number in the crude sewage remained relatively constant. It was concluded that the new sewage scheme had resulted in a marked improvement in the virological quality of the water. Comparison of viruses isolated from sewage and seawater with those reported from clinical cases in the area showed that while some appeared in both, others were identified only in sewage and seawater. These were echoviruses types 11 and 13, adenoviruses types 12 and 31 and reoviruses. Faecal streptococci and faecal coli were found to be poor predictors of viral content of water." @default.
