- W2004489032 abstract "Abstract A mini-review of recent applications of direct current (DC) arc atomic emission spectrometry is provided. A handheld spectrometer based on a charge coupled device (CCD) is described. This was used as the dispersion and detection unit for a direct current (DC) arc optical emission spectrometer. Atomic emission of barium, copper, iron, lead, magnesium, and zinc from the DC arc source was monitored. Rapid quantitative analysis was realized with limits of detection (LODs) of 1.8 (Zn) to 9.3 (Mg) µg/g for direct solid sampling, and the upper linear ranges of the calibration curves extended at least to 1000 µg/g. In general, the LODs by the CCD compared favorably to those obtained by the traditional photographic method. The advantages include ease of operation, rapid measurement, low cost, digitized signals, downsized and automated instrumentation, and the solid sampling and multielement capabilities for the DC arc source are retained." @default.
