- W2004608742 abstract "Young adrenalectomized rats maintained on cortisone acetate and intact rats were force-fed a purified diet devoid of threonine for 3 days. Animals of both groups developed atrophy of the pancreas, submaxillary gland, stomach, thymus and spleen, and a fatty liver with a periportal distribution of lipid and an increase in hepatic glycogen. The results indicate that biochemical and anatomical changes found in intact rats force-fed a diet devoid of threonine may also be found in adrenalectomized rats receiving constant doses of cortisone and the threonine-free diet. Although the hepatic changes in rats force-fed the threonine-devoid diet are similar to those obtained in normal rats treated with cortisone, the present results indicate that the pathologic changes found in animals with threonine deficiency are not due to increased adrenocortical corticosterone secretion." @default.
