- W2004685619 abstract "Prior to and after the introduction and establishment of the ichneumon parasite Biolysia tristis (Graven horst) in the United States, the major biotic agent responsible for restraining populations of the clover leaf weevil (Hypera punctata (F.)) was thought to be the fungus Empusa sphaerosperma (Fres.) Thax. More recently it has been noted that B. tristis in New Jersey, and possibly in other areas of distribution, may exert a greater influence in reducing weevil populations than the fungus, which is dependent on exacting climatic conditions to be effective. B. tristis is a solitary end parasite and apparently host specific on clover leaf weevil larvae. Ovipositon takes place shortly after adult emergence in all larval stages of its host. The egg is kidney shaped and three larval instars can be distinguished. The mature larva leaves its host and forms its cocoon within that of the host. The parasite is univoltine and usually thelyotokous. It is most abundant and effective during the fall and spring of the year, at which time host prevalence occurs in the field and parasitization may range from 80% to 90%." @default.
