• W2004987360 abstract "Since the first description of Opercularia coarctata by Clapabede and Lachmann 1854 this peritrich has been described with 28 different names. The zooids of Opercularia coarctata are very variable. All individuals have constant numbers of circular galleries of cils: 1¼–11½. The cils are 8–12μm long. The c.v. mostly is found in the lower region of the buccal cave. During the contraction of the animal the peristomial region formes a snout, while the basal part overreaches the peduncle. Apart from these constant signs the zooids are to be found in 5 ecoforms. In ecoform I–III the peristom is not or little protrudent, while in ecoform IV and V the peristom protrudes evidently. There are intermediate forms between all ecoforms. In all ecoforms: Length: 36–124μm Width: 16–48μm In Opercularia coarctata the shape of the macronucleus is not constant, all forms of “Langkerne” (macronucleus horseshoe-formed) are possible. As “Verbreitungsstadien” (propagative forms) you may find zooids, which swim only with the adorai ciliary circle. But mostly typical swarmers are formed with aboral ciliary circle, though the disc is not always retracted. In worse milieu Opercularia coarctata formes “Kurz-Dauer-Stadien” (short-time permanent forms). By further deterioration this peritrich formes regular thin or thick cysts. The different shapes of zooids depend on oscillation of oxygen. Opercularia coarctata is a direct indicator for a rich occurrence of bacteria and only an indirect indicator for saprobity. Because of the existence of a “Peristomialfurche” (peristomial groove) Opercularia coarctata is a real Opercularia. You can look upon Opercularia coarctata as a link between Epistylis and Opercularia. Seit der Erstbeschreibung von Opercularia coarctata durch Claparéde und Lachmann 1854 wurde dieses Peritrich unter 28 verschiedenen Namen beschrieben. Die Zooide von Opercularia coarctata zeigen eine große Variationsbreite. Konstant bei allen Individuen ist die Anzahl der Wimperumgänge. Sie beträgt immer etwas mehr als 1¼ und etwas weniger als 1½ Umgänge. Die Länge der Cilien beträgt 8–12μm. Die meist im Bereich der unteren Hälfte der Buccalhöhle liegende kontraktile Vakuole ist immer in Einzahl vorhanden. Bei der Kontraktion kommt es in der Regel am Vorderende zur Schnauzenbildung, während sich das Hinterende über den Stiel stülpt. Außer diesen ziemlich konstanten Merkmalen läßt die übrige Körpergestalt eine Unterteilung in 5 ökoformen zu. ökoform I–III zeigt keinen oder nur einen minimalen Randwulst, während die ökoformen IV und V einen deutlichen Randwulst besitzen. Übergänge zwischen allen ökoformen sind zu finden. Größenbereich aller ökoformen: Länge: 36–124μm Breite: 16–48μm Die Gestalt des Makronukleus wird zumeist als konstantes Artmerkmal angegeben; bei Opercularia coarctata gehen jedoch sämtliche Formen der Langkerne ineinander über. Als Verbreitungsstadien findet man Zooide, die sich vom Stiel ablösen und mit der adoralen Wimperspirale schwimmen. Zumeist werden jedoch typische Schwärmer mit aboralem Wimperkranz gebildet, die jedoch nicht immer den Diskus einziehen. Bei mäßig schlechten Umweltbedingungen werden „Kurz-Dauer-Stadien“ gebildet. Verschlechtert sich das Milieu weiter, so werden richtige Cysten gebildet, und zwar entweder dicke oder dünne Cysten. Die unterschiedliche Gestalt der Zooide beruht auf ökologischen Faktoren, und zwar auf Sauerstoffschwankungen. Das Vorkommen von Opercularia coarctata in fäulnisreichem Milieu beruht lediglich auf dem dort herrschenden, hohen Angebot an Bakterien. Die Anwesenheit von Opercularia coarctata läßt sich nur als Indikator für Bakterienreichtum werten, die Saprobitätsstufe läßt sich mit diesem Peritrich also nur indirekt feststellen. Durch das Vorhandensein der Peristomialfurche gehört Opercularia coarctata eindeutig zur Gattung Opercularia, allerdings steht dieses Peritrich der Gattung Epistylis sehr nahe. Man kann also Opercularia coarctata als Bindeglied zwischen Epistylis und Opercularia ansehen." @default.
