The film structure and the molecular orientation were studied by observation of the infrared reflection and transmission absorption spectra. On the metal substrates, the direction of the main carbon chains in β and γ mixed phases of polyvinylidene fluoride is random, whereas on the Si substrate, the main carbon chains in the β phase align normal to the film surface. The difference in the molecular orientation and the structure on different substrates is discussed based on the growth rate and the thickness dependence of the amount of infrared absorption on each substrate." @default.
