- W2005150427 abstract "The electrooxidation of glucose on Pt both in acid and alkaline media is markedly catalyzed by submonolayers of heavy metals (i.e. Tl, Pb and Bi) deposited at underpotentials. The catalysis is recognized by the shift of the oxidation peak in the double layer region to more negative potentials and by the increase of the respective current peaks. In acid solutions, factors such as the temperature and the presence of chloride ions were also taken into account. The catalytic action caused by underpotential submonolayers has been interpreted in terms of the decrease of the electrode poisoning, resulting from a stable gluconolactone-type adsorbate, according to the model of the third body effect in electrocatalysis. Further experiments performed with other monosaccharides have shown that the catalysis of the oxidation of monosaccharides on Pt by underpotential submonolayers is influenced markedly by the steric and structural characteristics of these molecules." @default.
