- W2005157156 abstract "The deformation and fracture of Zircaloy-4 and pure zirconium sheets having strong (0002) textures were studied under plane-strain compression at temperatures from 20° to 800°C. Zircaloy-4 underwent a ductility transition from limited strain (0.1 to 0.3) to extensive fracture-free flow (> 0.6) at about 300°C; pure zirconium was ductile at all temperatures. These differences were traced to others in deformation mechanisms. Below 300°C, Zircaloy-4 accommodated compression along [0001] by 〈c + a〉 slip; these dislocations were mainly confmed to thin bands oriented close to {1124}. In pure zirconium {1122} twinning followed by second- and third-order retwinning tended to distribute strain more uniformly. Above 300°C both materials deformed by a combination of {1011} twinning and 〈c + a〉 slip.Fracturing in Zircaloy-4 was by highly localized shear along thin bands of {1124} orientation. From an analysis based on measured strain-hardening behaviour and standard heat flow equations, it is suggested that localized shear can be brought about by thermal softening during slip-band formation. Résumé Par compression entre 20° et 800°C, les auteurs ont étudié la déformation et la rupture de tôles de Zircaloy-4 et de zirconium pur, ayant une forte texture. La ductilité du Zircaloy-4 présente une transition, la déformation variant d'une limite inférieure (0.1 à 0.3) jusqu'à un important écoulement sans fracture (>0.6) vers 300°C; le zirconium pur est par contre ductile à toute température. Ces différences sont liées aux mécanismes de déformation. Au-dessous de 300°C, le Zircaloy-4 accommode la compression selon l'axe [0001] par glissement 〈c + a〉; ces dislocations sont surtout confinées dans d'étroites bandes d'origine proche de {1124}. Dans le zirconium pur, le mâclage {1122}, suivi des mâclages secondaire et tertiaire, tend à répartir plus uniformément la déformation. Audessus de 300°C, les deux matériaux se déforment par une combinaison de mâclage {1021} et de glissement 〈c + a〉.La rupture du Zircaloy-4 est dûe à un cisaillement fortement localisé dans d'étroites bandes {1124}. Grâce a une analyse basée sur les propriétés de consolidation et des équations de transmission de chaleur, les auteurs suggèrent que le cisaillement localisé peut être la conséquence d'un adoucissement thermique durant la formation des bandes de glissement." @default.
