- W2005213364 abstract "1. Intracellular pH of laying hen uterine mucosa, measured with the aid of 14C-DMO and 3H-inulin, was not influenced by the state of shell gland activity, but increased and decreased with the feeding of alkalogenic and acidogenic diets, respectively. 2. Shell gland activity was not accompanied by changes in either intracellular Na+ or Cl−; a slight change in intracellular K+ was noted. 3. Intracellular Na+ increased markedly as a result of ingestion of a high-sodium alkalogenic diet. 4. pH, Na+ and Cl− in uterine fluid were lower and K+ was higher during shell gland activity, than during gland inactivity. 5. The existing asymmetry between uterine fluid and extracellular fluid during shell formation is discussed." @default.
