- W2005238664 abstract "The expansion of an ion–ion plasma into a vacuum is studied by particle-in-cell simulation. Analytical estimations are given. It is found that the process differs radically from the similar process in a usual electron–ion plasma. If the positive to negative ion mass ratio is significantly different from 1 a self-similar cooling wave develops in the hot light ion species. The spatial size of the cooling wave is larger than the spatial size of the rarefaction wave by a factor of the square root of the massive to light ion mass ratio. In the case of equality of the ion masses the cooling wave and the rarefaction wave combine into one structure." @default.
