- W20056934 abstract "Human cerebral arteries respond to a variety of peptide mediators with either contraction or relaxation. As summarized in Table 1, peptides originating from endothelial cells or perivascular nerves can influence cerebral vascular tone, at least when given exogenously in pharmacological doses. It should be emphasized from the start that the involvement of endogenous peptides as agonists for these perivascular receptors is not yet clear, partly because of lack of specific receptor antagonists and because of ethical problems in human experiments on the cerebral circulation. Furthermore, peptides administered via the circulation generally do not cross the blood brain barrier. Therefore, peptides released from perivascular nerves or abluminally from endothelial cells may still have profound vascular effects." @default.
