- W2005694535 abstract "Electrolytic manganese dioxide (EMD, CECRI) dispersed with silver and lanthanum through a thermal route in selected non-stoichiometric compositions has been investigated by electrochemical methods to assess its electrocatalytic activity in the oxygen evolution and reduction processes in a KOH medium. Oxygen reduction begins at −0.1 V (vs Hg/HgO, OH−), and the process is diffusion controlled. Oxygen evolution begins at 0.6 V after the formation of the higher oxide of Mn. Dual Tafel slopes of 0.04 and 0.120 V are observed respectively at low and high overpotentials for the evolution. The tafel slope of 0.04 V is for the reduction. Dispersion of silver has increased the apparent io value from 10−7 to 10−5 A cm−2, and there was little effect of lanthanum for the reduction. The io values for the evolution are 10−9 and 10−7 A cm−2, respectively on silver and lanthanum containing oxide whereas it is 10−8 A cm−2 for the simple oxide. The results obtained have been discussed and rationalized in relation to the chemical stability, specific resistivity, chemical composition and the ease of electrode fabrication of these materials to ascertain their possible application as electrocatalytic electrode materials in alkaline water electrolyser or fuel cell reactions." @default.
