In the region of low oxygen content, neutron diffraction possesses a large advantage because of the large scattering factor for oxygen and the low value for vanadium with neutrons. In an alloy containing 21.0 atomic per cent oxygen, the oxygen atoms are found in the octahedral positions of a body-centered tetragonal lattice, as inferred by earlier workers using X-ray diffraction. Une comparaison est faite entre la diffraction des rayons X et la diffraction des neutrons dans le but de la localisation des atomes d'oxygéne dans les alliages vanadium-oxygéne.
