- W2007087356 abstract "Abstract We have measured the linear thermal expansion coefficient, α, from 2 to 100 K and the heat capacity, Cp, from 0.4 to 10 K of stainless steels AISI 304, 316 and 310. All show ‘magnetic’ contributions to α and Cp in addition to the usual lattice and electronic terms. The 304 and 316 steels behave in a similar fashion, showing an anomaly (from magnetic clusters, perhaps) in α below 10 K. The 310 steel with high Ni and Cr content has much larger anomalies in both α and Cp. The anomaly is roughly equivalent to adding a small constant term to Cp and subtracting a relatively larger constant term from α. For iron-nickel alloys Nilo36 and Nilo40, near to the Invar composition, the anomaly in α has a positive sign rather than negative and is not apparent in Cp." @default.
