Interfacial tensions between these liquids and water affect the ultimate distribution of these contaminants in the subsurface, and prediction of the interfacial tension in such mixtures is desirable. The interfacial tensions of two ternary chlorohydrocarbon-water mixtures were measured as a function of composition by the drop-weight technique. The two ternary mixtures studied included 1,1,2-trichloroethane/perchloroethylene/water and 1,1,2-trichloroethane/carbon tetrachloride/water. Simple linear mixing rules were used to estimate mutual solubilities for substitution into two different interfacial tension prediction methods. An empirical method yielded values 4.1% higher than experimental tensions, while the thermodynamic method yielded values 2.3% greater than measured values." @default.
