The organic halogens are instantaneously decomposed to free halogens in a stream of oxygen in a combustion tube and are further converted to iodine over silver iodide granules kept at 200 °C. The liberated iodine is introduced in the long gas cell heated at 130 °C in a dark chamber where the optical integration of total iodine is carried out by light absorption at 525 mμ. The maximum deflection of a recorder pen which responds to the output signal from the photoelectric system is simply interpreted to the quantity of the halogen in the sample by means of calibration line previously established with several combustions of standard halogen compounds." @default.
