- W2007254928 abstract "Production rate of oestradiol-17β has been measured in eight men before and after orchiectomy for cancer of the breast or prostate. 'Production rate' is defined as the sum of the glandular secretion of a particular hormone plus all other compounds that contribute to this hormone or to the metabolites measured; for discussion see Tait & Burstein (1964). This report demonstrates that in elderly men most of the oestrone and oestriol is dependent on intact testes. Each subject received 6–10 μc [6,7-3H]oestradiol (sp.act. 32 c/m-mole) i.v. before orchiectomy and again after about 2 weeks. Urine was collected for 3 days, an adequate interval for recovery of radioactivity (Fishman, Brown, Hellman, Zumoff & Gallagher, 1962), and metabolites were isolated and analysed by a double isotope derivative method (Fishman, Gurny, Rosenfeld & Gallagher, 1967). Results are in Table 1. In two of the subjects, production rates were measured twice from separate" @default.
