- W2007274576 abstract "The effects of urea, thiourea, mono-, di-, and tetramethylurea (alkylureas) on the micellization of cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) in presence of a biopolymer, gelatin has been studied by viscosity and fluorescence methods. The results showed a sphere to rod (s → r) transition in CTAB/gelatin/urea system and alkyl ureas (even in its higher concentration) and were found to stabilize the conformation of gelatin. The ability of surfactant to denature gelatin could be weakened by the addition of urea. The gelatin-induced structural transition has been confirmed by circular dichroism studies. Thiourea affected the micelle-protein interaction in a different manner, which is been explained in light of the difference in structure of thiourea. Our findings might provide a way to design surfactant systems that are less denaturing to proteins or tailor the ability of surfactant to denature proteins through the appropriate mixing with other additives." @default.
