- W2007357073 abstract "Introduction: We formerly report, double balloon enteroscopy is useful for diagnosis and follow-up of Crohn's disease. Introducing this new modality, the deeper area of the small intestine can be easily examined. We applied this new technique to treatment of the complication of Crohn's disease. We present therapeutic utility including dilation of obstructions and hemostasis of ulcers of the jejunum and ileum in the Crohn's disease patients. Method: Crohn disease patients were examined by EN-450T5 enteroscope (Fujinon-Toshiban inc., Tokyo, Japan). EN-450T5 is a therapeutic type of double balloon enteroscope and has 2.8 mm diameter channel. Endoscopic dilation was performed by CRE Balloon Dilators (Boston Scientific inc., MA, USA). Argon plasma coagulator was ICG-200 (ERBE Elektromedizin GmbH, Tübingen, Germany). All cases agreed to participate in this study prior. Result: For most cases, endoscopic balloon dilation of the obstruction in the small intestine was successfully performed. After the treatment, they are free from the symptom of bowel obstruction. Some cases were failed to dilate. One of the reasons is the length of the obstruction was too long for the dilator. In other case the patient complained severe pain even under adequate sedation and we aborted the treatment. We guess some adhesion of the intestine may exist. We experienced a few first-onset cases of Crohn's disease with severe anemia. They have bleeding ulcers in the small intestine and the hemorrhage can be stopped by APC. Conclusion: Our data suggests that use of the enteroscopic treatment spares the surgical therapy. The double balloon enteroscopy is useful for both diagnosis of Crohn's disease and treatment for their complications. And so we propose the Crohn's disease patients should be examined every year by this enteroscope." @default.
