- W2007404435 abstract "An oral glucose tolerance test was carried out on 24 adults, who ranged from lean to grossly obese. The peripheral glucose and free fatty acid (FFA) metabolism was studied before and for 150 minutes after glucose loading, using the isolated forearm preparation. The important findings were (1) the rate of glucose uptake showed a very close negative correlation with the skinfold thickness over the whole range of fatness in both sexes; (2) the rise of arterial glucose concentration following glucose ingestion was smaller in the obese than in the lean women, and in 2 of the 3 obese men studied; and (3) in two-thirds the subjects ingestion of glucose resulted in a reversal from an initial uptake to a release of FFA by the forearm." @default.
