- W2007409087 abstract "In this paper, the TSEE responses of oxides, mainly MgO, to bombardment with H + , He + , Ne + and Ar + in the energy range between 30 and 100 kev are presented. First, the relative yields of exoelectrons are explained by assuming the response function int S ( x )exp (- x /λ)d x . S ( x ), the energy deposited due to nuclear and electronic collisions, is a function of the particle-penetration depth x and λ is the attenuation length for exoelectron emission. Numerical estimations of S ( x ) for ions impinging on MgO were made using Monte Carlo simulation data based on the Linhard theory. In experiments in a UHV system, significant TSEE peaks peculiar to heavy-ion bombardment were found and attributed to nuclear-collision effects by comparing the observed responses with the results estimated from the above functions. An electron excitation is found to produce sources for exoelectrons with λ≃200 Å inside the bulk as well as on the surfaces." @default.
