- W2007448524 abstract "Summary In an attempt to study the effect of viroid infection on host gene expression, healthy and potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTV)-infected tomato leaves were compared with respect to the pattern in polyacrylamide gels (PAGs) of their (i) 0.4 N H 2 SO 4 -soluble proteins extracted from nuclear preparations and (ii) 0.74 N HClO 4 -soluble proteins extracted from tissue homogenates. Histone proteins, their minor components and variants as well as high mobility group (HMG)-like nonhistone chromosomal proteins were detected and characterized on the basis of their mobilities in the different electrophoretic systems used. None of the methods used revealed any difference between healthy and PSTV-infected tomato plants with respect to the electrophoretic characteristics of their H 2 SO 4 - or HCIO 4 -soluble proteins. These results suggest that interference by a viroid with the regulation of host gene expression does not occur at the level of these mainly structural chromosomal proteins." @default.
