- W2007583721 abstract "The electrochemical reduction of HTeO2+ has been studied at a glassy carbon surface using rotating electrode techniques. By a combination of the electrochemical measurements with optical microscopic analysis of the electrodeposits it was found that the electrochemical behaviour is directly attributable to the type of deposit morphology being formed. HTeO2+ is initially reduced by a 4-electron reaction, producing a dendritic Te deposit. This dendritic Te can be further reduced to H2Te at more cathodic potentials, with complete consumption of the dendritic tellurium. A conproportionation reaction between electrogenerated H2Te and HTeO2+ in the electrolyte results in the deposition of a smooth Te film on the electrode surfaces. Further Te deposition, by the 4-electron reduction reaction, continues to produce a smooth film. The smooth Te film cannot be reduced to H2Te at potentials accessible in the aqueous acid electrolyte. At an Au ring electrode, the re-oxidation of H2Te in the absence of HTeO2+ is found to occur with 100% of the experimentally determined collection efficiency for the electrode geometry. The collection efficiency experiments demonstrate that the re-oxidation of H2Te occurs exclusively by a 2-electron reaction. No evidence for the 6-electron oxidation of H2Te was found at the Au surface, and it was concluded that the direct 6-electron redox chemistry of HTeO2+ is not possible at an Au surface, nor at glassy carbon." @default.
