- W2007656585 abstract "The slowing down of neutrons in a uniform medium of arbitrary isotopic composition has been studied by the method of spherical harmonics. The dependence of the free path length of the neutrons on their lethargy is taken into account approximately. At small distances from the source, the distribution function is independent of the order of the approximation taken in the spherical harmonics method and is identical with the results of the age-diffusion approximation. A more accurate estimate of the limits of applicability of the latter approximation is given. At large distances from the source, the spatial dependence of the distribution function is determined completely by the spatial distribution of the primary neutrons and the angular distribution and energy spectrum of the slowed down neutrons become independent of the spatial co-ordinates. The results of calculations of the spatial distribution of indium neutrons in water for monoenergetic and polyenergetic sources are presented." @default.
