- W2007906993 abstract "Applied osmotic pressures as a function of bilayer separation for DOPC or POPC in water are analyzed using a least-squares iterative approach. Functional parameters are determined for the hydration and putative van der Waals forces acting between bilayer surfaces. It can be shown that the osmotic pressure technique for measurement and data analyses are sensitive to dramatic differences in the hydration force decay length. The derived decay lengths for the hydration repulsive pressure were 4.13 ± 0.099 Å for DOPC and 6.24 ± 0.214 Å for POPC. In addition, a complete analysis of the interactive forces between POPC bilayers clearly indicates that assuming only a van der Waals component of the attractive force is incorrect. These results are also discussed relative to the effect of undulation forces on the repulsion between bilayer surfaces." @default.
