- W2008045185 abstract "The dynamic behavior and heat transfer for a single water droplet impinging upon a hot solid surface have been investigated experimentally. The instantaneous radius of the spreading droplet was measured by an electrical resistance probe. The transient solid surface temperature was measured by a high-sensitivity two-dimensional surface temperature probe made by alumel-chromel thin films of 0.03 mm. The initial droplet diameters were varied from 2 to 5 mm, and impinging velocities ranged from 0.5 to 3 m/s. Based on the measured surface temperature curves, two cooling regimes were determined for impinging liquid droplet cooling. The effect of impinging velocity, liquid subcooling, and impinging angle were examined. It was found that the most important factor that influenced the impinging heat transfer characteristics was the initial solid surface temperature. By use of the heat balance method, the heat transferred per droplet was determined." @default.
