The result is that a classroom and generally the learning environment is mostly limited to transmission of information rather than the meaningful construction and function of knowledge. A group of teachers from Hulu Langat Primary school set out to change this, within the context of their own classrooms. The teachers formed a community of practice which began with discussions on how to stimulate active learning in year six classrooms. For most members of the community, the teachers-based method has been the dominant approach.
