Kata kunci: pembangunan perisian multimedia; konstruktivisme; pendidikan sainsToday, the use of multimedia technology is vital in enhancing education system in line with the global challenges of the new millennium. Multimedia technology should be utilized to generate useful products. Interactive multimedia elements like text, audio, video, graphic and animation are powerful tools which can make teaching and learning more interesting by employing various human senses. Educational approaches and theories should be used in designing effective multimedia courseware to ensure that it can increase the quality of teaching and learning. A prototype of multimedia courseware is developed in this study based on constructivist learning theory for a science topic on Earth and Day-Night Phenomena. The constructivism approach is chosen because it, emphasised students’ preconception or existing ideas. Restructuring ideas the next phase, involvesd ‘hands-on’ and ‘minds-on’ activities with the aim to expand or restructure their existing ideas. The extent to which students have restructured their ideas and gained a new understanding of the concepts were tested in application and reflection phases. The prototype was tested for its feasibility and effectiveness and it appears to promote learning among the respondents. Key words: courseware development; constructivism; science education" @default.
