From 30 to 100 A MeV the initial disk of nuclear vapor, formed in near-central collisions, condenses by means of spinodal instabilities into a number of protospheres, some of which fuse to form heavier objects. The prediction of 13 intermediate mass fragments for central collisions of 100 A MeV Au + Au is in good agreement with experimental measurements. For higher energies the code provides a microscopic, three-dimensional picture of the process by which the maximum number of fragments are produced at intermediate impact parameters. The code also predicts toroidal vortex nuclei, “smoke rings”, for 0.4 to 4.0 A GeV 12C + Au." @default.
