- W2009103255 abstract "1. While intravenously administered maltose and glucose are efficiently oxidized to 14CO2 in the rat, trehalose and sucrose are minimally oxidized. 2. A relatively large percentage of intravenously administered trehalose and sucrose are recovered in the urine, while small amounts of glucose and maltose are excreted in the urine. 3. Analyses of radioactivity in tissue homogenate extracts indicate that trehalose and sucrose accumulate predominately in kidney tissue. 4. The absence of trehalase and sucrase activity in rat serum and kidney may contribute to the relative inability of the rat to metabolize trehalose and sucrose. 5. The presence of trehalase activity in rabbit serum and kidney likely contribute to the efficient oxidation of trehalose to 14CO2 by this animal. 6. Injected maltose, unlike trehalose or sucrose, remains the only disaccharide known to be metabolized as well as glucose in the rat." @default.
