- W2009488498 abstract "Various central stimulants were administered to rats which had been pretreated with α-methyl-p-tyrosine (α-MpT) and/or reserpine, and the resultant patterns of behaviour were compared with those elicited in non-pretreated control animals. Although the stimulants induced similar patterns of excitation and stereotypies in the control animals, differential responses were obtained in pretreated animals. Following α-MpT some drugs failed to induce stereotypies, whereas the stereotypies induced by others were of reduced duration. Some stimulants potentiated, while others antagonized the α-MpT catalepsy. Reserpine depressed stereotyped behaviour in only one instance, although the duration of the behaviour was generally curtailed. The effect on motor acitivity was variable. Excitation and stereotypies were induced in the combined presence of reserpine and α-MpT by apomorphine, and by higher doses of some amphetamine analogues. The relative importance of the various pools of catecholamines in the response to central stimulant agents has been discussed." @default.
