The study permits a clarification of the SSIMS fragmentation pattern for a doubly-bridged CO overlayer at low coverages. Coverage dependent changes in the relative amounts of linear and bridged CO bands from HREELS correlate closely with the proportion of PdCO+ and Pd2CO+ ions from SSIMS. The consistency of these results with earlier SSIMS studies on a variety of metal surfaces is discussed along with the effects of substrate geometry, adsorbate binding energy and adsorbate-adsorbate interactions on secondary ion emission." @default.
