- W2009790600 abstract "Certain reactions occurring during the preparation of uranium antimonate catalysts have been investigated by observing the thermal behaviour of orthorhombic uranium (V, VI) oxide and uranium (VI) dioxide dinitrate hexahydrate. The thermal dissociation of the catalysts has also been examined. Although α-U3O8 is stable under oxygen, it dissociates progressively when heated under nitrogen forming U8O21+z′ which has a weak but characteristic absorption in the infrared at 645 cm−1. When heated in oxygen, UO2(NO3)2 · 6H2O dissociates to UO3 which, at higher temperatures, yields U3O8. In the formation of catalysts by solid-state reactions at about 1440 K under oxygen, α-U3O8 and Sb2O4 react incompletely to yield polyphasic material consisting of amorphous USb3O10 together with USbO5 and unreacted Sb2O4. Preparation of the catalysts in aqueous solution from UO2(NO3)2 · 6H2O and Sb2O3 achieves almost complete conversion to crystalline USb3O10. Although USbO5 is an intermediate in both processes, UO3, Sb6O13+x and Sb6O13 are also formed in the latter synthesis. On heating to 1221 K in nitrogen, USb3O10 dissociates via USb1+xO5+y to USbO5 which, in turn, forms U8O21+z and Sb2O3." @default.
