- W2010064861 abstract "Abstract The purpose of the present experiment was to obtain a more detailed description of the brain activity that accompanies linguistic processing. We recorded magnetic responses using the BTi whole-head system (148 channels) while six subjects silently read 150 Japanese sentences that appeared word by word every 1.2 s. Inquiries about their contents were made after the presentation. Congruous nouns, violent nouns and particles were selected as the stimuli. Based on the across-subject root mean square (RMS) functions, a sequence of two components was identified. The first component for the range of 100–250 ms, RMS for the two noun conditions were greater than for the particle conditions, and dipolar sources were found in the fusiform gyrus bilaterally. The N 400m component for the 300–500 ms interval revealed a larger RMS for the violent nouns compared to the other two conditions and its source was located in the vicinity of the superior temporal gyri or the angular gyri on the both hemispheres. The former component might be related to word recognition, and the latter might be interpreted as reflecting the integration of the word into preceding context." @default.
