- W2010096377 abstract "Modifications of the assay of Pla and Fritz (1971) for the determination of bioavailability of iron have been suggested. The basal diet contained 20% casein and vitamins and minerals (except Fe) were added to meet the requirements of rats according to N.R.C. recommendations. After feeding the basal diet to male weanling Wistar rats for 5 weeks, supplements of standard (FeSO4)and test sources were added (reduced iron and sodium iron pyrophosphate) and feeding continued for 3 weeks. Food intake, body weight and hemoglobin were measured weekly. Two week response measured as hemoglobin (g %) had a linear relationship with the logarithm of ppm of (FeSO4) iron added to the diet. The response of test sources was found to be parallel to that for FeSO4. The 95% fiducial limits of the relative biological value obtained were 20% below and 25% above the centre. Other parameters tested viz product of hemoglobin (g %) and body weight (g) at 2 and 3 weeks, hemoglobin at 3 weeks gave comparable results but did not improve the precision of the determination. Des modifications ont été suggérées pour la méthode de Pla et Fritz (1971) déterminant la disponibilité biologique du fer. La diète de base contenait 20% de caséine; des vitamines et des minéraux (excepté le fer) furent ajoutés selon les recommendations du N.R.C. afin de pourvoir aux besoins des rats. Des rats Wistar, mâles, sevrés, furent nourris pendant 5 semaines avec la diète de base, ensuite, des suppléments de standard (FeSO4) et sources d'essai furent ajoutés (de fer réduit et du pyrophosphate de fer et de soudre) et la diète fut continuée pendant 3 semaines. La quantité de nourriture ingérée, le poids et l'hémoglobine furent mesurés hebdomadairement. Après une période de 2 semaines, l'hémoglobine, mesurée en g %, avait une relation linéaire avec le logarithme des ppm de (FeSO4) fer ajouté à la diète. La réponse des sources d'essai allait parallèlement à celle pour le FeSO4. Les 95% des limites fiduciales de valeur biologique relative obtenue était de 20% au-dessous et 25% au-dessus du centre. D'autres paramètres analysés après 2 et 3 semaines, tel le produit d'hémoglobine (g%), le poids (g) et l'hémoglobine après 3 semaines produirent des résultats comparables mais n'ont pas servi à améliorer la précision de l'analyse." @default.
