- W2010105092 abstract "Abstract This is a longitudinal, observational study of the development of narrative discourse, based on data from two Brazilian first-born children acquiring Portuguese as their native language. Tape recorded data were collected at weekly intervals from 2;1 – 2;6 to 5;1. In the analysis of the children's free interaction with an adult interlocutor in their home, the types of strategies underlying narrative constructions were identified. The results show that the first proto-narratives begin to manifest themselves from the verbal interaction of the child with an adult, and that the child interweaves real events with fantasy, making use of both linguistic and non-linguistic devices to narrate. A socio-constructivist approach is called on to explain the process of acquisition of narrative discourse. It is suggested that narratives are produced as a result of collaborative interactions between the two partners in actual conversations." @default.
