- W2010206837 abstract "A quantum mechanical calculation has been carried out to investigate the effects of width variation of a finite, open double-bend quantum channel on the quasi-bound states, which are localized on the double-bend region and exponentially decayed along the left and right leads. The channel connects to two semi-infinite two-dimensional electron gases, which serve as emitter and collector when a bias is applied. The numerical results show that unequal width of the left and right leads of the structure has reduced the amplitudes of the resonant tunneling peaks in conductance below the first propagating mode which correspond to the resonant tunneling via the quasi-bound states. However, the size variation of the double-bend part of the structure only changes the positions and the number of the resonant tunneling peaks. As a visual view, the electron density of the quasi-bound states and the current-flow pattern at the resonant tunneling are exhibited. We predict that these effects can be treated as a factor in qualitatively explaining the smaller amplitudes in experimental measurement than those in the numerical calculations." @default.
