- W2010269311 abstract "1533 Current methods to directly stimulate sweat glands in vivo preclude administration of multiple doses of sudorific agents at the site of sweat rate (SR) measurement. The purpose of this project was to identify whether sweat gland function could be assessed by administration of acetylcholine via microdialysis while simultaneously measuring SR over the microdialysis membrane. Two microdialysis membranes were inserted intradermally in 6 subjects. SR was independently measured over each membrane. At 5 min increments, 1×10−5 M to 2M acetylcholine (8 doses) were administered through the microdialysis membranes. The figure illustrates average responses attained using this method. Linear regression of SR between sites revealed a strong linear relationship (slope=1.08±0.15, R=0.99 ±0.004, P<0.05), verifying the repeatability of the method. These data demonstrate that intradermal microdialysis coupled with capacitance hygrometry is a viable method of assessing sweat gland function in vivo.FigureSupported by NASA: NAGW3582 and NAG9-1033" @default.
