• W2010554933 abstract "The complexes formed between antimony pentachloride and chlormethylated polystyrene (CMPS) and its low molecular analogues, chlormethylated toluene and chlormethylated CMPS, have been studied by spectroscopy and viscometry. It has been shown that a marked decrease in the intrinsic viscosity of the solution occurs in complex-formation between CMPS and SbCl 5 , but, when their concentrations are comparatively high, a gel is formed. Complexes formed between SbCl 5 and ArCH 2 Cl have characteristic absorption bands with maxima at 470–505 nm in solution in nitrobenzene and at 550 nm in solution in benzene, whereas, at low degrees of chlormethylation, CMPS in solution in nitrobenzene has both maxima and, at still lower degrees of methylation (Cl content less than or equal to 3%) only one, at 550 nm, which points to the existence of a polymeric micro-environment in the SbFl 5 -CMPS complex. The decrease in viscosity and gel formation are explained by the creation of polydentate complexes and possible structures for these complexes are discussed." @default.
